George County, MS – Sheriff Dean Howell says a 911 call on Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:45 p.m. of a possible kidnaping in progress turned out to be two individuals who had dated embroiled in a scuffle. The suspect was reported driving an older model red and white pickup and had been reported driving very erratically through parts of the Basin Community in an attempt to elude sheriff’s deputies. Deputies had spotted the driver using old logging roads in an attempt to get away even going around other vehicles driving in the ditch at one point.
Deputy Larry Havard, knowing that particular area, turned onto an untraveled logging road and spotted the suspect’s vehicle stopped on the dead end road. The deputy then drew his weapon as the male suspect had exited the vehicle leaving the female in the passenger seat. The deputy placed the suspect, identified as Howard Street, 53, of Highway 26 West of George County in custody. The suspect then admitted there was a shotgun in the vehicle. As Sgt. Pat Dueitt and investigator Stu Fairchild arrived on scene the female was taken into custody, and the vehicle searched for weapons. In addition to finding a shotgun officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Deputies continued to search and discovered approximately 4 ounces grams of marijuana, clear plastic baggies, a scale, two boxes of worms and a decorative knife set.
The female suspect said she had not wanted to go with Street and will be pressing charges.
