Garry M. Welford Memorial Scholarship
The Garry M. Welford Memorial Scholarship is named in recognition and honor of Sheriff Garry M. Welford who was killed in the line of duty on July 21, 2010. The scholarship offers up to $1000.00 to a deserving George County high school senior who plans to pursue an education in a Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice related field at a college or university of their choice. This is a one-time cash scholarship that may be used for tuition, books, supplies, room and board, or other school-related expenses.
Qualifications:
- The student must be a senior at George County High School.
- The applicant must have at least a 3.0 grade point average, on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent to a "B" grade average.
- The applicant must have taken the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
- The applicant must be accepted to and planning to enroll as a full time student (12 or more credit hours) in a college/university.
- The applicant must be committed to pursuing an education and career in a law enforcement/criminal justice or related field.
- Applications must be submitted by mail and postmarked by April 1 of the application year to the following address:
