SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER

On Friday, May 6, 2011, Joseph Edward Catchot (42) of Lucedale MS, was arrested and charged with Sex Offender- Failure to Register.
During the investigation by the George County Sheriff’s Department it was determined that he had not lived at his registered address since October 2010. Catchot had made several address changes from February to April 2011. All address changes made by Catchot were not reported to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety or the George County Sheriff’s Department as required by law.
On Monday, May 09, 2011, Catchot appeared before George County Justice Court Judge Norman C. Howell and given a $ 2000.00 commercial bond.
George County Sheriff’s Department currently has fifty three (54) registered Sex Offenders who reside in George County which also includes seven (7) that are incarcerated in the George County Regional Correctional Facility.
According to Mississippi Code of 1972, the penalty for Sex Offender - Failure to register is a fine of not more than Five Thousand Dollars ($5000.00) or imprisonment in the State Penitentiary for not more than five (5) years, or both.
