Bond Set, Charges Still Pending for Riley

PRESS RELEASE

BOND SET, ANIMAL FIGHTING CHARGES PENDING

May 24, 2018

On May 24, 2018, Kofi B. Riley (38) of George County, MS, appeared before George County Justice Court Judge Jesse Underwood on multiple charges stemming from an arrest made on Wednesday, after Agents with the Southeast MS Narcotics Task Force and MS Bureau of Narcotics responded to complaints concerning possible drug activity and animal fighting. Riley was arrested at a residence in the Bexley Community of George County, where Agents found stolen property, weapons, drugs, and approximately 24 injured dogs, as well as several roosters.

Riley was charged with Felony Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Controlled Substance (Marijuana), and Possession of Controlled Substance (Ecstasy). These charges carry a combined bond of $50,000 Commercial, as well as a $1,000 Signature bond for the misdemeanor charge. The Possession charges will carry an Enhanced penalty due to Riley being in possession of a weapon at the same time. As this is an ongoing investigation, there are still charges pending.

The animals recovered in this arrest are currently in the custody of the George County Sheriff’s Office and are being cared for in conjunction with Dixie Adoptables, George County Veterinary Clinic, and the ASPCA. They will remain in custody as evidence in an active investigation and are receiving necessary medical care. Sheriff Havard would like to thank Wiggins Police Department for their assistance; Magnolia Animal Clinic for their initial, on-scene consultations; George County Veterinary Clinic for their extended evaluations; and Dixie Adoptables for transporting and continuing to help care for these animals.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information concerning this or any other crime is encouraged to contact the George County Sheriff’s Office at 601.947.4811.
