George County Sheriff’s Department Launches New Website

The George County Sheriff’s Department launched a new Website on Oct. 7, 2010 where residents can find the latest information regarding the operations of the Sheriff’s Department as well as locate area sex offenders. The new Website will serve as an information resource for the public as well as assist with community policing efforts.

The Website, www.GeorgeCountyMSSheriff.com, provides updated information on all aspects of the Sheriff’s Office.

One of the main goals of the new Website is to provide information to the public about sex offenders living in the county.  The sex offender map features pinpoints designating where registered sex offenders live. By clicking the pinpoint, the sex offender profile information is displayed including a link to the offender’s photo. Site visitors can also click on a list of the offender’s name to view profile information.

“My husband, Sheriff Garry M. Welford, started this project with the safety of our residents as his primary concern and felt the sex offender map feature would assist in protecting our citizens while providing them with timely, accurate information about our community” stated Sheriff Debbie Welford.

In addition to the interactive sex offender map, the new Website also features press releases and news updates, a message from the Sheriff which is updated frequently, pages on the services of each division of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as a link to submit anonymous crime tips via email. Our Website also features details of a newly established memorial scholarship named after Sheriff Garry Welford.

Other features of the Website include:

Most Wanted Listings – allows the public to view photos and descriptions of wanted individuals;

History of the Sheriffs – This allows us to share photographs and information of our former sheriffs.  Our hope is to work with our community to provide details and little known facts going back to our county’s beginning in 1910.  We invite and encourage anyone with information to please contact the sheriff’s office.

“Posting information on the Website improves the efficiency of the Sheriff’s Office by reducing the number of inquiry calls handled by our office. This will allow us to devote more resources to the safety and security of our residents. The new Website will provide greater transparency for the Sheriff’s Office and encourages the public to take an active role in community policing efforts which was very important to Sheriff Garry Welford.  Our intent is for every George County resident to visit the site and become familiar with how to locate sex offenders, how to submit a crime tip and where to find the latest news and updates from the Sheriff’s Office. We believe the Website is a huge benefit for everyone in George County, and it has been an honor for me to help see this wish of Garry’s to become a reality.  It could not have been completed without the assistance and hard work of Garry’s staff, especially that of Detective Duane Bowlin,” said Sheriff Debbie Welford.

MostWantedWebsites.com by Brooks Jeffrey Marketing, Inc. of Mountain Home, Arkansas, developed the Website.  The firm specializes in website solutions for law enforcement and government offices.
